Lake Pend Oreille (Pronounced pond-duh-ray) is the largest natural body of fresh water in Idaho and one of the largest in the Western United States. The lake's name is derived from an Indian Tribe called Pend Orielles by early French trappers because they wore pendant ornaments in their ear lobes.
