An unpleasant sensation occurring in varying degrees of severity as a consequence of injury, disease, or emotional disorder.
Pain control then is the management of this unpleasant sensation.
1. Electro acupuncture (or more accurately called electro-acupoint therapy because there is no actual puncturing of the skin) - this stimulates the body's own endorphin production (endorphins are natural pain killers produced within the body).
2. Ultra-sound - a unit that gives off sound vibrations beyond our hearing range. When applied to the body these sound waves penetrate in to give a micro-massage to cells and tissues to help relieve tight and tense muscles that can cause pain.
3. Diathermy - a very deep heating unit, stimulates circulation and relieves muscle tension.
4. Manipulation - manipulation of the spine and other joints to relieve pressure on nerves.
5. Supplements - certain supplements can help relieve muscle tension, improve proper lymphatic flow, and help patients relax in general, as well as natural pain killers such as white willow bark which work for some people.
